It is no secret that Congress wastes a lot of time in committee hearings and markups that ultimately have little impact on funding. Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers’s USA Act flips that autopilot switch off and actually closes federal programs that fail to justify their effectiveness. Finally. An article about my important legislation to rein in out of control federal agencies.
By dint of their brilliance, brains, and guts, Attorney General Loretta Lynch and the nine women that make up our annual Women in D.C. package make Washington work. This article originally appears in the April 2016 issue of ELLE. The following is an excerpt from the Elle article:
Nancy Reagan set a high standard for First Lady while her husband Ronald Reagan was serving as one of the greatest Presidents of the United States. She was his constant support and advisor. Her advocacy for grandparents and tireless efforts in the fight against Alzheimer's made a great contribution. Today, we mourn the loss of another great American.
Abraham Lincoln’s birthday is February 12 and George Washington’s birthday is February 22. In many states both dates were celebrated, but in 1968 the Uniform Monday Holiday Act shifted the federal observance to a single holiday held on the third Monday in February. The holiday never falls on either of the two actual birthdays. In federal law, it is still called simply Washington’s Birthday, although most people call it Presidents' Day. This election year, it’s good to remember the great leaders we have had and draw inspiration from their courage and determination. Enjoy the day!
It’s always great when your legislation passes the House with a bipartisan majority. I was happy to sponsor and work for the Common Sense Nutrition Disclosure Act. I’m going to continue to work hard to give small businesses the best chance to succeed without unnecessary federal regulations slowing us down.
