    Rob McCann

Among the local leaders I honored this year at my “Pink Flamingo” BBQ was Rob McCann for the outstanding work he has done combatting homelessness at Catholic Charities Spokane. He joined the organization in 2000 and has served as its head since 2005.

    9/11 2017

Sixteen years ago today, we saw the face of hatred and extremism try to destroy our way of life. Today, we remember not only lives lost in New York, Washington, DC, and Pennsylvania, but the spirit that unified America and the perseverance of the American people who work unceasingly to build a better nation. #neverforget

    Phil Tyler

At my annual “Pink Flamingo” BBQ, I acknowledged some outstanding community leaders. The first was Phillip Tyler on behalf of the Peaceful Communities Roundtable. I reached out to Phil in November after hateful graffiti showed up at the MLK Family Outreach Center. Phil challenged me to have courageous conversations...

    Harvey Relief

We were all struck by the suffering inflicted on the people of Texas by Hurricane Harvey. The House moved quickly - as the President requested - to provide aid. It will be a long road to recovery for many in Texas, but this is a good first step in helping people get back on their feet.

    Smoke in the Air

The smoke in the air serves as a reminder of all the dedicated volunteer, state, and federal fire fighters working around the clock to quell these fires. Please keep all our fire fighters in your thoughts and prayers, and be safe around all the smoke.

    Pink Flamingo 2017

Our Annual Pink Flamingo BBQ was a terrific way to celebrate the end of summer, with more than 530 friends from around the district. Work in Washington DC begins just after Labor Day, but the warm memory of our evening will stay with me. Thank you for all your encouraging words.

    Brown Statement

This is the statement I released to the media today after Lisa Brown announced she will be running for the 5th District Congressional seat:

"I look forward to having a civil discussion of the issues. I listen to and vote for our district. I think voters will discover that my opponent does not fit Eastern Washington very well. Her record is of continual tax increases, more government spending and regulations.”

    Veteran Medals

It was an honor to present Dennis Bean with four of his long overdue medals for his service as a combat engineer in Vietnam. Even after their service, our veterans are one of the greatest assets we have in our communities. I thank Mr. Bean for his service to our nation and will continue to work hard to make sure our veterans are taken care of.

    Door Stop Award

Everyday veterans contact my office seeking help for something as simple as making an appointment. Our veterans should have the same technological options as people at doctors offices around the country. Whether you're a Republican, Democrat, or Independent, we can all agree that our veterans deserve the care they have earned. I am honored to receive the Door Stop Award for my bipartisan work to find innovative solutions to improving healthcare for our veterans.
