Budget

  • Sep 19, 2016

  • USA Act: Cathy introduced the Unauthorized Spending Accountability act to restore the "power of the purse" to the American people.  The USA Act eliminates unauthorized spending not approved or explicitly reauthorized by the people's representatives.
  • Sales Tax Deduction: For Washington, one of our biggest “wins” in the budget was making the state and local sales tax deduction permanent. In the past, this crucial deduction, which saves our taxpayers $2 billion annually, has only been authorized temporarily. This fulfills a decade of work by the entire Washington delegation.
  • Research Tax Credit: Important for many Washington state businesses – the R&D tax credit has now been made permanent and bonus depreciation has been extended for five years (50% for 2015-17, 40% in 2018, 30% in 2019)

Cathy visited the Fruitland Wildfire Command Center to see the situation firsthand.

  • Forest Fires: Funding to prevent and fight forest fires was also increased significantly.
